The Imo State Police Command has arrested two persons over the rape of a 14-year old girl, Gift Ofoegbu.
The suspects are Sopuruchi Uzoma, and Okechukwu Ekezie, the youth chairman of the community in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state. The Director of the Esther Child Rights Foundation, Esther Obioma has raised the alarm over the alleged rape of Gift by Uzoma and Ekezie.
Obioma who raised the alarm in a petition submitted to the state Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma and the Human Rights Commission, alleged that Gift was raped several times by the suspects, leading to her pregnancy, which she also consequently lost as a result of other abuses on her. The petitioner alleged that Ekezie, who volunteered to handle the matter, took the little girl into his custody, but also had his way with her.
The suspects are presently detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the command. The State Police Spokesman, Henry Okoye, who acknowledged the arrest of the suspects said the matter was presently being investigated at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
