Chinonso Egemba (Aproko Doctor)
Chinonso Egemba has risen to become one of Nigeria’s most influential Facebook creators, with 1 million followers. His niche content revolves around healthcare, as he demystifies health-related topics and debunks medical myths on his platform.
Egemba’s journey into creating medical content began with a personal experience during his fourth year of medical school when he encountered a man with a stroke who returned years later with a second stroke and did not survive.
“After my research and a few polls, I discovered that people were unaware of their health. I tried to get into radio because I saw it as a medium to share information. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible, so I planned to use social media. I am glad I have made a great impact on people’s lives regarding their health,” he said.
He also partners with renowned doctors and other health influencers for live sessions or co-creates informative videos with them to reach a broader audience.
Gina Ehikodi (Foodies&Spice)
Gina Ehikodi is a food content creator. She is the host of “Foodies and Spice,” the longest-running cooking show in Nigeria. As soon as her TV show launched, she turned to Facebook as her primary means of sharing updates, including broadcasting times and behind-the-scenes photos and videos. The show has helped her build an influential presence on Facebook through her food content.
“As I realised I could even get more audience with instant feedback on social media than what I got on TV, I became a full-fledged Facebook Creator,” she said.
She also has a Foodaholics group, where fans share recipes and food stories. One of the biggest highlights of her journey is the Foodaholic Festival, a major food festival in Lagos, Nigeria, now in its sixth year. “This festival started from my Facebook community,” Gina added. To keep her content relevant and engaging, she has infused storytelling, comical voice-overs and comedy into her food videos to stand out in the fast-paced social media space.
Meta noted that although new requirements exist for monetisation programmes, the community guidelines remain sacrosanct and must be adhered to for creators to be monetised.
“Adhering to the regulations and requirements for the monetisation programme does not nullify or remove the adherence to the community guidelines. All rules must be adhered to to gain from Meta’s monetisation,” said Oluwasola Obagbemi, Head of Corporate Communications Africa at Meta.
