From Okwe Obi, Abuja
The leadership of the National Rescue Movement (NRM), has expressed optimism of winning the Edo State governorship poll as a Federal High Court in Abuja confirmed Dennis Aikoriogie as its standard bearer.
Recall that Justice Nwite ruled that the primary election that elected Aikoriogie as the NRM candidate was conducted in accordance with the party’s constitution and in accordance with the electoral guidelines.
The Judge dismissed a petition instituted by one Cosmos Odion Irabor challenging the authenticity of the primaries that produced Dr. Aikoriogie as the candidate.
According to the leadership of the Party, the judgment will go a long way to correct the earlier misunderstanding that orchestrated Dr. Aikoriogie’s exclusion from the list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
NRM National Publicity Secretary, Afuye Olusola, in a statement yesterday, said: “NRM leadership and its entire members worldwide are happy with the judgement of Justice Nwite seeing it as a welcome development and a victory for democracy.
“In the spirit of the founding principles of our great party, we are saying no victor and no vanquish.
“Our unity remains unbroken. We are now more focused and looking forward to
archiving victory in the forthcoming Edo election.
“The NRM will stop at nothing to rescue Edo State from the shackles of the bad leadership that has crippled the socio-economic progress of the heartbeat State.
“The Party congratulates to Dr. Dennis Aikoriogie, the National Rescue Movement family, the entire people of Edo State, citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Democracy on this victory.”
