The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has beefed-up security and fortified patrol across border posts in the state.
This followed a memo directing state and zonal commands of the service to intensify and increase their patrol of border towns to curtail the influx of some notorious terrorists that escaped from prison as a result of reported cases of jailbreak in the neighbouring Republic of Niger.
The memo, according to the comptroller General of the NIS, Kemi Nana Nandap directed all Immigration formations within border communities in their respective states and zonal commands to be on the alert to curtail the movements of unusual faces within the border areas.
In a press statement issued and signed by the head of the Media and Public Relations unit of the Niger State Command of the service, Malam Mukhtar Abubakar and copy of which was made available to journalists on Thursday in Minna noted that the command has already complied with the memo.
Abubakar explained that in line with the memo, the command has already placed men on border patrol, on the red alert to assist in intensifying their patrols along the border towns across the state to checkmate the movements of suspicious persons.
He, however, added that the service headquarters received credible intelligence/ information that “as a result of the jailbreak in Niger Republic, some dare devil terrorists groups may infiltrate border communities, on that note, we were directed to fortify our border communities with patrols with the view to nip in the bud any unforeseen security breaches.
“We are not taking any chances. We are already on top of the situation to curtail and checkmate the movement of any unusual movement on our border communities in the State.“Our border patrol squads are already on top of the situation with the aim of checking the influx of suspicious movement of any character within our border towns and communities.”
Mukhtar called on the General Public to assist the Command with useful and credible information on the strange faces in their midst this, according to him will assist the command in taking proactive action.
He said, “I’m calling on members of the public particularly those within our border communities, to extend their hands of cooperation to our border patrol squads with useful and credible information on any unusual movement in their midst for prompt action.”
