Zamfara State Commissioner of Education, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, has disclosed the current administration’s plans to establish nine special schools across the three senatorial zones in the state. These schools will focus on science, technical, and entrepreneurship studies.
The Commissioner, during an assessment and fact-finding visit on Wednesday to the first phase of awarded contracts for the renovation of Government Science Secondary School, Gusau, and Zamfara State College of Arts and Science (ZACAS) in Gusau, stated that this initiative is part of the present administration’s rescue mission in the state.
Wadatau Madawaki explained that the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal has prioritised the educational sector, undertaking total renovations of educational institutions across the state to create a conducive learning atmosphere.
According to him, the administration has given special attention to science, technical, and entrepreneurship studies. He revealed that plans have reached an advanced stage for the establishment of nine special schools that will focus on these areas of study.
“The special schools will be established to develop science, technical, and entrepreneurship education. We have earmarked nine schools, three in each senatorial district of the state,” he explained.
The Commissioner further explained that entrepreneurship education will be taught at Girls Secondary School Moriki, Government Girls College Talata Mafara, and Government Girls Unity School Kotorkoshi in the state.
He said the contracts for the renovation of schools were awarded as a result of Governor Dauda Lawal’s declaration of a state of emergency in education.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done by the contractors in the schools.
“On the issue of manpower, the state government will soon start the recruitment of 2,000 qualified teachers.”
At ZACAS, Gusau, the Commissioner urged students to make the best use of the new structures for good performance in their academic pursuits.
Earlier, the Provost of ZACAS, Gusau, Dr. Yakubu Sanusi, applauded Governor Dauda Lawal’s efforts in giving much attention to the college.
He advised students to focus seriously on their studies, as the government has provided a conducive atmosphere for learning in the college, with a new modern library, hostels, and lecture halls, among other structures.
