From Desmond Mgboh, Kano

The Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, has begun distributing 69 truckloads of fertiliser to farmers across all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Kano State.

The distribution of the fertiliser, totalling 41,400 bags, was launched on Tuesday in the Danbatta and Makoda LGAs of the Kano North Senatorial District. This initiative is part of Senator Barau’s efforts to support local farmers, improve agriculture, and contribute to achieving food security in Nigeria.

Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdallahi, Chief of Staff to the Deputy President of the Senate, inaugurated the distribution on behalf of Senator Barau. He handed over 2,804 bags and 1,910 bags to the people of Danbatta and Makoda LGAs, respectively.

Professor Abdallah described the gesture as unprecedented in the history of Kano North and urged the farmers to use the fertiliser judiciously to enhance their output. He emphasized that the fertiliser distribution is one of Senator Barau’s numerous interventions in Kano North and Kano State, spanning across various sectors of human development.

“In the name of Allah, I flag off the distribution of fertiliser on behalf of the Deputy President of the Senate. This exercise will continue until we distribute 41,400 bags of fertiliser across the 44 LGAs of Kano State,” he said.

Dan Bayero, speaking on behalf of Danbatta LGA residents, commended the Deputy President of the Senate for the gesture, describing him as a true representative of the people.

Tijjani Yakubu Salisu, a beneficiary in Makoda LGA, expressed gratitude to the Deputy President of the Senate, stating that the fertiliser had saved his farm.
