To have and give, expecting nothing in return is a rare trait possessed by very few men. Few men who are compassionate and godly, but when it’s done by a woman, it becomes rare and is termed “philanthropy extraordinaire,” especially in Nigeria, and Igbo land in particular, where women are sometimes not accorded the pride of place they deserve.
With essential amenities such as water, light and roads lacking in Edem, a particular woman found it in her heart to ease these community problems of her people, by taking the bull by the horn.
Silently and diligently, with passion, she started realizing and fulfilling her dream for her people in earnest. She achieved all this without publicity and social media engagements.
The lioness as a silent achiever, organized and coordinated a group of her like minds called Blessed Edemites Waters to contribute towards the success of the historical drilling of the Akpa Mgbago Water Project Akpa Edem. She single-handedly sponsored the drilling of boreholes at various locations in Edem. She went further to build an ultra-modern smart library in Edem, the first of its kind. She also constructed and reconstructed roads in Edem.
Her benevolence didn’t stop there. Knowing the benefits of education, as a scholar herself who graduated from the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, with her level of exposure to the Western world, she came up with an idealogy that no child in Edem should be left behind in terms of basic education. She solely embarked on awards of various scholarships to students in primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions, and assists in the payment of community electricity bills and other revenue bills, even in churches.
Her kind-hearted nature never ignores the less privileged. With her belief that no one from Edem should go to bed hungry, with dignity, she provided seasonal palliatives of all kinds, distributing food items.
She also pays hospital bills for individuals, establishes businesses and sponsors people in various vocational training like plumbing, hairdressing, tailoring, motor parts dealership, solar panels and CCTV installation. Most of the beneficiaries are widows and orphans.
Her genuine love and affection for her people wasn’t unnoticed. It prompted the community to accord her a Chieftaincy title, the first of its kind in Edem.
It’s on record that she is the only bonafide female chief in the entire Edem community.
Hence, the late Igwe of Edem-ani ancient kingdom, the most respected Igwe Engr. Sunday Asogwa, crowned this icon a chief, with a befitting title (Orie Ocheta Ibe Na Edem…)
A woman of diamond substance, residing in Chicago United States of America, from Isu Edem, Chief Mrs Ngozi Anyanwu… nee Ezugworie, (Igdikwu munyi na-awu onye atiti eshi) is also a Princess born into the family of Chief (Ozor) Edoga Joseph Ezugworie, the Attama Tazz XXVI NNA EDEM (Traditional Prime Minister of Ngwu Tazz Edem)
(Ngozi) meaning: Blessing, as her name indicates, is truly a blessing to her family and the Edem community in general.
Her title (Orie Ocheta Ibe) meaning: one who eats and remembers others, is testimonial, and a clear proof of the true nature of this glorious lady who is so beautiful both in the flesh and in her heart.
