No fewer than about six persons were reportedly injured, just as a tractor and motorcycle burnt during the last week’s land dispute that erupted between Dakumi and Gbage communities in Lapai local government area of Niger state
The incident occurred in Ebbo Gbachinku Ward of the local government, as the report indicated that two people were injured and presently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital.
It was reliably gathered that police have arrested four persons who were said to have been granted bail for the suspects to produce the actual perpetrators of the dastardly acts, causing mayhem and disharmony among the two communities who were previously living in peace for several decades now.
According to sources, the attackers were said to have used some dangerous weapons such as cutlasses, guns, stones, sticks and other dangerous items in carrying out their criminal acts.
Further checks revealed that the district head of Ebbo Gbachinku has paid a sympathy visit to the two warring communities with the view that their representatives should ascertain the immediate or remote cause of the bloody flash between the feuding communities and report back to the Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago 111, while the case is ongoing at a State High Court,sitting in Minna.
The residents have appealed to the State Governor, Umaru Bago in conjunction with the State Commissioner of Police CP Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman and other relevant authorities for urgent intervention before the crisis escalates beyond control.
Meanwhile, The Police Public Relations Officer Niger State Police Command,.(PPRO) SP Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident in a statement issued in Minna over the weekend, noting that the incident is under investigation and efforts are being intensified to arrest the perpetrators.
However, two persons were said to have been arrested in connection with the clash adding, that the situation was relatively calm, in the two communities and its environs while investigation and monitoring continued by security operatives, and measures were said to have been put in place to avert occurrence as peace was being maintained on the ground.
