Ebonyi State Government has charged residents of the State to adopt all the preventive measures against cholera to avoid outbreak in the State.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Moses Ekuma gave the charge on Saturday in a telephone interview with Nigeria Tribune online following the recent outbreak of the disease in some parts of the country.
According to the commissioner, Ebonyi has not recorded any confirmed cases.
He then urged Ebonyi people not to panic but to keep their environments clean adding that the ministry is equipped with some medical commodities to fight the menace.
His words; ” Actually it has been confirmed that there is outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country but in Ebonyi, we only have suspected cases none has been confirmed.
“We are already preparing to curtail the disease if eventually there is an outbreak in the State. A Technical team has been set up for that, we have train and re-train our health workers, we have gotten some medical drugs and commodities in preparation for that, we are also sensitising the people on the important of health education”.
“I urged the Ebonyi residents to know that there is an outbreak of cholera in the country even though there are no confirmed cases in Ebonyi, I want people to adopt to all the preventative measures like washing their hands regularly, ensure they keep their surroundings clean and also take any suspected person to the hospital.
“People should not panic because ministry of Health have acquired all the preventive measures”.
