The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the immediate past Rivers State Local Government Chairmen whose tenure has expired against any conduct that is capable of disrupting the peace in the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, the party noted that the three-year tenure in office of the former Rivers State Local Government Executive Councils has expired by the effluxion of time under the relevant State Law establishing the Rivers State Local Government Council Administration.
The PDP, therefore, counselled the former Rivers State Local Government Council Chairmen to desist from any action that may constitute disruption in Local Government administration in the State.
The party called on the people of Rivers State to remain calm, law-abiding and continue to work together for the continued stability, peace and delivery of democracy dividends in Rivers State.
The main opposition party has also announced the approval of its National Working Committee (NWC) to extend the sale of forms for the PDP 2024 scheduled congresses.
A separate statement by the party’s national spokesman said the decision is pursuant to its power under the Constitution of the PDP (as amended in 2017).
It informed that by this, the sale of forms has been extended from the initial closure dated Monday, June 17, 2024, to a new date of Friday, June 28, 2024.
Consequently, it stated, the last day for the submission of already completed State Executive Forms earlier scheduled for Friday, June 21, 2024, has now been extended to Friday, July 5, 2024.
“All party leaders, critical stakeholders and teeming members should note the extension and be guided accordingly,” the statement added.
