A cross-section of youth in Taraba State, under the auspices of K-Move, have canvassed more support for Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba to ensure more youth engagements and revolutionary ideas.
The youth disclosed this at a concert organised by K-Move, a social support group for Governor Kefas’ administration, to celebrate his one-year anniversary.p
The leader of the group, Magnum Jatau, who described the governor as the most youth-friendly governor in the history of the state, noted that he has demonstrated sufficient commitment to youth empowerment by appointing the majority of his commissioners as youths.
Jatau noted that, beside appointing youth into his cabinet, the governor has come out with a lot of programmes aimed at empowering the youth, including free education and slashing tuition fees by 50% to ensure that the youth can all have quality education.
He said that the K-Move was founded to ensure that the activities of the state governor receive the needed publicity and that the people of the state are mobilised to key into the governor’s agenda.
“Tonight, we are all gathered as youths to celebrate the landmark achievements of His Excellency Governor Agbu Kefas in the course of this one year.
“This is the first time the youth in this state are doing this, and it is because this is the first time a governor has shown such levels of commitment to the growth of youth in our dear state.
“You will all agree with me that this is the first time a governor has appointed so many youths as commissioners since the creation of this state. In the course of this one year, the governor has clearly shown that he is ready to upgrade the quality of our youth in the state.
“Already, plans are underway for the revival of the male and female football teams as well as renovations of the Jalingo, Takum, and Gembu stadiums.
“This is aimed at boosting sports activities in the state and ensuring meaningful youth engagement.
“We are also aware that the governor has graciously slashed the tuition fee of the state-owned higher institutions by half, besides declaring free education for the primary and secondary schools in the state.
“This comes with the registration of WAEC and NECO for students, as well as the provision of uniforms and books.
“This is unprecedented in the history of our dear state, and that is why we just have to celebrate his one-year anniversary in this grand style.
“As we celebrate tonight, let us all rededicate ourselves to contributing our own quotas to the actualization of the five-finger agenda of the governor.
“Let us be the kind of youth that can compete favourably in the global space. The world is going digital, and we cannot afford to be left behind.
“Let us therefore undertake courses in ICT, artificial intelligence, and other areas that are now in vogue,” he said.
In his remarks at the occasion, Mr. Gabriel Yough, the Chairman, Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Taraba Chapter, urged the youth to ensure that the administration succeeded in proving young people’s capability in governance.
Yough noted that, having appointed 80 percent of commissioners as youths in the state, Gov. Kefas has wisely put the entire Taraba young population on trial.
“I understand that a few young people appointed as commissioners by Gov. Kefas are here in the hall with us.
“I want to urge all the youth to support the commissioners in succeeding in their ministries so as to instil confidence in the youth over governance.
“Make sure you employ your energy to engage technology and strategic collaborations that can help the government succeed so that Taraba becomes a reference point for youth engagement in good governance,” he said.
Yough lauded K-Move for redefining youth engagement with social media, saying their positive approach complemented the conventional media in projecting the state for development in the last year.
