Nollywood filmmaker, Precious Sunday, widely known as P-S Document Bishop, has emphasised that YouTube has had a significant impact on filmmakers.
P-S Document Bishop, an award-winning movie director, producer, scriptwriter and content creator, who is an indigene of Rivers State (Ikwerre) praised YouTube’s role in transforming the industry, highlighting how it has liberated actors from the traditional constraints of waiting for job offers.
“The advent of YouTube is a welcome development. Actors no longer have to wait for jobs to be handed to them,” he remarked.
While acknowledging the challenges posed by the conventional movie distribution system, Document Bishop underscored the necessity of adapting to the digital age.
He explained: “What is happening now in our industry is a welcome development. It has taken a lot of filmmakers off the street. The era of waiting for someone to offer you a movie job is gone ever since YouTube came on board. Even if it was bad business for some of us, we have no choice but to move with the times.”
He urged actors to leverage the opportunities provided by digital platforms, advising them to stay proactive.
“Actors should get busy. Nobody should wait to be called upon for movie jobs; everyone can make a living out of YouTube,” he added.
Document Bishop, a prominent member of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, and a member of Active Movie Producers Marketers Association of Nigeria has over 52 movies to his credit.
As the DG of Nollywood Recognition Award (NRA AWARD), a yearly event in the society, he has demonstrated his deep involvement and commitment to the industry’s growth and adaptation in the digital era.
