Members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Adamawa State who are aspiring to contest for the position of chairman in the forthcoming local government election have been charged to nominate women as their running mates.
The Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission, ADDIEC, had released a timetable for the council election next month, fixing July 13 as the voting day.
At a stakeholders meeting in Yola on Tuesday, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri who is traditionally the leader of the PDP in the state, said the PDP should continue to recognize the contributions of women and accord them their due attention.
Fintiri who as the PDP governorship candidate last year had picked a female running mate, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta charged aspiring council chairmen to thread his path.
Fintiri, at the stakeholders meeting, warned the stakeholders against any act of sabotage or anti-party activities during the local government election.
“I want every one of us not to repeat what happened during the last governorship election. Handle it with all sense of commitment and without any lackadaisical attitude,” Fintiri said.
He enjoined the aspirants or candidates who may lose the primary or election proper to accept their fate in good faith, just as he urged all PDP stakeholders to ensure free and fair conduct of the party’s primary elections.
Earlier in his remark, the state Chairman of PDP, Tahir Shehu said the meeting was called to discuss matters regarding preparations of the party for the local government election.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that the council election will be held in all 21 local government areas for new chairmen and councillors to emerge.
