An embattled grou within the All Progressives Congress group in Osun State, the Omoluabi Progressives have asked its members not to allow themselves to be distracted by naysayers of the progressive Ideals.
The caucus in a statement issued and signed by Abosede Oluwaseun, the Organising and Publicity Secretary on Wednesday made this appeal while giving an update on its ongoing registration.
Oluwaseun, while acknowledging that the response of people has been ‘encouragingly enormous’, called on more people of the state to pitch tents with the party caucus.
According to him, “Between Saturday, June 1st, 2024 and Tuesday, June 4th, the volume of good people of Osun and beyond who have trooped en mass to register with the Omoluabi Progressives is encouraging.
“We thank those who started the journey together, we appreciate those who have joined us, and we encourage those who will join us to make haste while inviting everybody to join the Omoluabi movement in a bid to make Osun great again and recover the lost glory.
“We make no discrimination based on ethnicity, religion, occupation, economic status, and any circumstance of birth, except in adherence to our core values and character. We are open to all people, young and old, rich and poor, educated or otherwise, traders and blue collar, landowners and tenants.”
He also lambasted the leadership of the party for running the party aground and losing power to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
“We urge our teeming followers, lovers and followers not to be distracted by the ranting of the naysayers to the Progressivism ideas as laid down by our political fathers. This same set of political novices had run down the progressive party and lost power under their watch in 2018,” he stated.
This development is coming a day after the Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, denounced the Omoluabi Progressives which is led by former Osun State Governor and immediate past Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The Osun APC after an expanded stakeholders meeting on Tuesday also declared members of the Omoluabi Caucus as an unrecognised group.
The Osun APC chairman, Tajudeen Lawal in a statement after the meeting also declared that the Omoluabi Progressives is not a part of the party in the state and members should not go for their electronics membership registration
