Two fashion designers— Dumebi Iyamah, (brand name, Andrea Iyamah) and Ruth James (brand name Veeke James) are the guests on this week’s edition of the Globacom-sponsored African Voices Changemakers on news channel, CNN.
Iyamah is a Nigerian-Canadian fashion designer born and raised in Lagos; and is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of her fashion label, which caters to bridal, swimwear and ready-to-wear lines. She has made dresses for celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Kate Hudson, Gabrielle Union, Ciara, Issa Rae and Genevieve Nnaji.
Born on March 18, 1993, she launched her fashion brand at the age of 17. Thre brand is currently headquartered in Toronto, Canada; with a flagship store in Lagos.
On the other hand, James learnt how to make clothes from her mother, Esther, who was a fashion designer.
She was inspired by her mother to start her own fashion brand in 2019. Later, she founded ‘Veekee James Man’, a fashion brand for men’s wear, and ‘Shoprikan’ for women. Outfits from her bespoke couture are also known for their impeccable craftsmanship and red-carpet appeal.
