The Oyo State House of Assembly has urged the police to expedite its investigation with a view to apprehend all involved in the recent killing of a student at the Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo.
The Assembly made the call following a matter of urgent public importance by lawmaker representing Atiba constituency, Honourable Gbenga Oyekola at plenary.
The motion decried the tragic circumstances behind the death of Alexander Timileyin, a 200-level Mechanical Engineering student of the university, and described the torture and killing of a student in the school hostel as barbaric and an appalling act against humanity.
Buttressing the motion, Oyekola held that the killing raised broader concerns about the safety of students across educational institutions.
The motion read: “If immediate steps are not taken to enhance security, conduct a thorough investigation, and bring the perpetrators to justice, it could result in a loss of confidence in the safety of educational environment, potentially deterring students and their families from pursuing academic endeavours.”
