A group, Rising Up for a United Nigeria (RUN), a frontline civil society organisation, has appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying the government is on course to deliver on all its campaign promises towards improving the economy and welfare of Nigerians.
The group, which comprises youths and middle-aged citizens in Nigeria, held a solidarity rally on Wednesday to mark 25 years of uninterrupted democracy and to commemorate the one-year anniversary of the current administration at the Unity Fountain in Abuja.
Addressing participants at the rally, the conveners, Amb. Solomon Adodo and Chief Michael Msuaan, who spoke separately, commended the sterling achievements of the President Tinubu government while lauding the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, as a pillar and beacon of stability in the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration.
They described the SGF as a seasoned administrator and patriot who has deployed his wealth of experience to address the challenges and bottlenecks that have hitherto characterised the manner and way the federal government performed its duties.
On his part, Amb. Solomon Adodo “hailed Mr President for assembling an impeccable team of technocrats and patriots who have prioritised the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The choice of Senator George Akume, a two-term former Governor, Senator, and Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, to serve as SGF has been one of the best appointments of Mr. President, and his ability to stabilise the administration is, to say the least, credible.”.
On the other hand, Chief Michael Msuaan underscored the “silent success of the current administration as a result of the professional handling of the affairs of government by the SGF, whom he described as a prolific leader, astute politician, and seasoned administrator who rose through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary, Governor, Senator, Minister, and loyal party man.”.
The group acknowledged that the administration was greeted by a plethora of challenges at its inception, including the reoccurring petrol subsidy matter, the subsidisation of forex rates, and a rapid decline in local productivity.
RUN, however, stated that in what could best be described as an audacity of courage, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu took the bull by the horns and embarked on sweeping reforms that have set Nigeria on a path of enduring progress.
“This administration was greeted by monumental challenges, but Mr. President and his adroit team have converted these challenges into opportunities.
“In just one year, our refineries have roared back to life, the country is now a huge construction site with several road projects ongoing, and the youth have been significantly prioritised with the floating of several youth entrepreneurship funds, appointments, and consistent positive engagements.
Just as President Tinubu has stated, the bleeding has ended and the healing has begun. We have been through the pains of yesterday, and we are at the gates of our gains today.”
In very strong terms, RUN condemned those promoting anarchy while calling on Nigerians to unite for development to flourish.
“We are aware that there are fiendish political elements fanning the embers of anarchy and anomie. We condemn their actions in the strongest terms. Elections are over, and all Nigerians should do is focus on supporting the government to deliver on the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
“We are glad that the foundation has been laid for the rapid revival of the Nigerian economy and overall development.
“With the bold steps taken and the results being produced, we are sure more progress will be recorded in the coming years.
“It is our duty to stand as partners with the government to ensure smooth delivery of good governance.”
The rights group, therefore, passed a vote of confidence on the SGF and his principal, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and urged “Nigerians to be patient with the current administration as it is on course to deliver excellently on all its campaign promises towards improving the economy and welfare of Nigerians.”
