No fewer than 14, 000 candidates applied for temporary teaching jobs in Jigawa State within 24 hours.
Chairman of the Jigawa State Universal Basic Education Board, Professor Haruna Musa, stated this while speaking at the official presentation of permanent appointment letters to 3,233 candidates at the Aminu Kano Triangle, Dutse, the state capital.
He informed them that they served as temporary teachers for two years and thereafter were given permanent and pensionable appointments after passing a series of examinations and training.
“All the 3,233 teachers were recruited based on merit and we are assured that all of them are capable and will give sound knowledge to our children,” he stated.
Prof. Musa noted that the board will keep monitoring them and will not be hesitant to sack anyone who fails to abide by the employment rules as stated in the offer of employment.
He added that the board has also opened its portal for the recruitment of another 3, 000 temporary J-Teach teachers, aimed at bridging the teacher gap Jigawa has been battling with for years.
According to him: “To my surprise, within 48 hours of opening the portal, no fewer than 14, 000 candidates applied for the temporary teaching job. I don’t know how many candidates will apply before the closing.”
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Umar Namadi said that mass employment was part of his plan for the successful implementation of his 12-point agenda.
He explained that no government policy can be fully and effectively implemented without enough training and capable manpower.
