Protesting Labour Party members from Edo state clashed with supporters of the National Chairman of the party, Julius Abure, at the National Secretariat.
The protesting members of the party from Edo state had come to press further her demand for the National Chairman to comply with the suspension handed out to him.
Supporters of Abure replied to the protest with an outright attack on the protesters who came to demand compliance of Julius Abure to the suspension of his person from his ward.
The situation was controlled by a detachment of security men who came to enforce law and order as supporters of the National Chairman, went out of order throwing stones in all directions to ward off the protesters from Edo state.
Before the breakdown of the order around the secretariat, leaders of the Edo protesters distributed copies of publications addressed to the National Executive Committee (NEC), of the LP by the Edo State Chairman, Com. Ogbaloi Kelly, State Chairman and Secretary, Com. Akhere Frederick, notifying the national body of the confirmation of Abure’s suspension from the state Chapter of the party.
The letter dated 24 May 2024 was referenced: LP/ESO/LP.NEC/2024-351, titled: Ratification of Suspension from the membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North East LGA, Edo State.
The publication read in part: “Here forwarded to you and for your notification, the ratification of the suspension of Comr Barr. Julius Abure from the membership of Ward 3, Arue, Uromi, Esan North East LGA. Edo State.
“The State Executive Council, Labour Party, Edo State, comprising of the State Working Committee, the 18 Local Government Chairmen and the 18 Local Government Secretaries met on the 24, of May, 2024, at about 11:00 pm.”
The publication further stated that the meeting was “to consider the matters presented on the suspension of Comr. Barr. Julius Abure, by his Ward in Arue, Uromi, Esan North East LGA, and the upholding of the suspension by the LGA Excos.
“After clinical analysis of the accusation, the Council found them weighty and further ratified and upheld the suspension,” the document stated.
It would be recalled that the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party announced the suspension of the National Chairman, Abure on Friday.
