The Kwara State Government on Friday sacked chairmen of the transition implementation committees of the 16 local government councils in the state.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that the action by the government is preparatory to the impending local council elections billed for September 21, 2024.
The state independent electoral commission had earlier fixed May 20, 2024, for the councils’ election.
A statement by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, Community Development, Mrs Modupe Iyabo Adekeye, in Ilorin on Friday directed directors of personnel management of the 16 local councils in the state to take charge of the administration of the councils until a new election is held in September.
“This effectively dissolves the Transition Implementation Committees (TICs) earlier appointed to manage the councils pending new local government elections.
“This development comes a few days after the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) slated the next local council election for September 21, 2024,” the statement added.
