Kwara State government has vowed to sanction erring health workers involved in professional misconduct in the state’s health sector.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina Ahmed El-Imam dropped the hint while reacting to the reported missing umbilical cord and placenta of a new born baby at a cottage hospital in Iloffa, Oke-Ero Local Government Area of the state.

In a chat with journalists, the Commissioner declared that professional misconduct among health workers would not be condoned by the government.

She described the recent incident of the missing umbilical cord and placenta of the newborn baby as a professional misconduct currently under investigation by the police.

Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that about five medical staff of the Iloffa Cottage Hospital have been accused of alleged unprofessionalism in the controversy over an improperly handled placenta, which has caused some concerns in the Iloffa community.

The case has since been under investigation by the Nigeria Police in Ilorin.

The Commissioner disclosed that “the state ministry of health has commenced its internal investigation into the matter and will ensure that justice is done at the end of both processes.”

El-Imam emphasized the unwavering commitment of the state government led by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to providing universal health care and quality service for all citizens of the state.

She warned that any attempt to undermine the stance through any act of misconduct would be vigorously dealt with.
