Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has commiserated with the Nigerian Army over an attack on soldiers by some criminal elements at Milverton Avenue, Aba.
The governor, in a statement made available by his Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko on Saturday, said he had been informed of the incident which occurred on Friday evening.
The statement quoted the Senior Special Assistant on Security to the Governor, Mr Chukwunenye Alajemba, as confirming that one soldier died in the incident while another, who sustained injury is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
Otti commended the officers and men of the Army for “exercising restraint in the face this unprovoked attack”, specifically thanked the Commander of 14 Brigade Nigerian Army Ohafia, Brig. Gen. O.O. Diya “for his prompt intervention and for ensuring that peace continues to prevail in the city of Aba”.
The Abia governor urged members of the public to remain calm and go about their lawful businesses without fear.
