The joint security operatives in Kogi State have rescued 14 students of the Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara.
Arogidigba Global Journal recalls that an unspecified number of undergraduates were abducted from the school by some gunmen on Thursday last week.
The armed hoodlums had invaded the CUSTECH Osara, shooting sporadically before abducting the students.
A statement issued on Monday and made available to Arogidigba Global Journal by the Police Public Relations Officer of the state, SP William Ovye, said 14 of the victims had been rescued from a bush.
He said that operatives of the command have also launched a manhunt for the remaining missing students.
He stated that the rescue operation was carried out by tactical teams from the command, comprising operatives of the Police Mobile Force and Counter Terrorism Unit, along with men of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army, Lokoja, officers of the Department of State Services, hunters and local vigilantes.
According to him, the combined team rescued the victims after a gun duel with the abductors, who, after being overpowered by the team, fled and abandoned some of the victims.
“The unwavering efforts of the security team led to the rescue of the 14 victims in the bush near Obajana.
“The security operatives are currently combing the bushes to ensure the rescue of the remaining victims, apprehend the culprits and bring them to deserved justice.
“The Kogi State Government as well as the university community are happy with the rescue operations and commended the joint security team for their unwavering efforts,” the statement added.
