The Tinubu Shettima Divine Mandate Initiative (TSDMI) 2023 has urged President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Police to release its Grand Patron and the Director General of the National Commission for the Co-ordination and Control of Proliferation of Small Arms and Weapons (NATCOM), Ambassador Otunba Adejare Adegbenro.
TSDMI is a support group that promoted the candidature of President Bola Tinubu and Voice President Kashim Shettima during the 2023 presidential election.
The group urged the President and the Nigerian Police to immediately release Adegbenro, who has been unlawfully detained since April 26, 2024.
A statement signed by the South West Zonal Coordinator of the group, Comrade A.M. Abolade, said, “Ambassador Dr Otunba Adejare Adegbenro, an illustrious son of Ogun State, Nigeria, a respected diplomat and an advocate for peace, security, and progress, has been unjustly deprived of his freedom for far too long.
“His detention violates not only his fundamental human rights but also flagrantly disregards the principles
outlined in the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, of which Nigeria is a signatory.
“The Tinubu Shettima Divine Mandate Initiative (TSDMI) 2023 strongly condemns this blatant violation of Ambassador Dr. Adegbenro’s rights and calls for his immediate and unconditional release”.
The group further stated that as their Grand Patron, Adegbenro has tirelessly dedicated himself to the agenda of Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and to the service of our nation, fostering international cooperation and advancing Nigeria’s interests on the global stage.
“It is imperative that President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and the Nigerian Police uphold the rule of law and adhere to international protocols by releasing Ambassador Dr. Adegbenro without further delay. Justice must prevail, and the rights of every Nigerian citizen, especially distinguished diplomats like Ambassador Dr. Adegbenro, must be protected at all costs.
“TSDMI stands in solidarity with Ambassador Dr Otunba Adejare Adegbenro and his family during this challenging time. We urge all stakeholders, both domestic and international, to join us in demanding his immediate release and ensuring that justice is served.
“We would hold the Nigeria Police responsible should anything bad happen to our Grand Patron,” the statement added.
