University of Sussex Chancellor’s Masters Scholarships are available for First Class graduates from institutions in the UK or Ireland. There are only 100 scholarships available, so there is a competitive application process.
Applications are invited from qualified students who meet the requirements as stated below

£3,000 for applicants assessed as ‘Home’ for fees or £5,000 for applicants assessed as ‘Overseas’ for fees
Requirements
- Have studied a Bachelors (Hons) at a UK or Irish university and hold, or expect to achieve, a First
- Have accepted an offer of a place on an eligible full time or part time Masters course to start in September 2024
You are not eligible for this scholarship if you:
- Are applying for a Masters at a university that is not at the University of Sussex
- Are progressing into the final year of an integrated Masters at Sussex
- Are a 2024 Sussex graduate
- Studied at a UK University’s overseas campus or external programme
- Are studying one of the Excluded courses listed below
You are not eligible for this scholarship if you are going to study any of the following:
- Certificates and Diplomas (including PGCE)
- Courses at Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS)
- Courses at IDS
- Early Years Education (with Early Years Teacher status)
- Degrees in Social work (if receiving an NHS bursary)
- Online courses
- Schools direct teaching courses
- Masters funded by the research councils (e.g. ESRC 1+3 funding)
Selection Process
The information provided here will be used to evaluate your eligibility for the scholarship, we may also use the information provided with your Masters application as part of this assessment.
The Scholarships Office will contact you when a decision has been made on your scholarship application; this will be after the deadline to apply has passed. If you do not meet the eligibility criteria for the scholarship, your application will not be considered.
Method of Application
To be considered for the Chancellor’s Masters Scholarship, you need to have received and accepted an offer of a place on an eligible Masters at Sussex and hold, or expect to achieve, a First Class UK or Irish Bachelors degree. To apply for the scholarship, you are required to provide a statement of academic interests. You should include information about:
- your previous academic achievement and excellence
- your academic and career aspirations after you have completed your Masters
- any work or extra-curricular activity you have undertaken that relates to your Masters
