President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, admitted the decision to appoint Finidi George as head coach of the Super Eagles was not easy.
Finidi was named successor to Portuguese Jose Peseiro on Friday.
The 53-year-old got the nod ahead of his former international teammate, Emmanuel Amuneke.
“It wasn’t an easy decision,” Gusau said in an interview with former Super Eagles media officer Toyin Ibitoye.
“We’ve to begin to trust our own. We will give Finidi all the respect and support he needs.”
Finidi’s immediate task is the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin in June.
