The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has advocated for a N1 million minimum wage for Nigerian police constables, considering the current country’s inflation and the responsibility of the police force in Nigeria.
The PCRC National Chairman, Alhaji Magaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, stated this at the 40th Year Anniversary Celebration of the Niger State Chapter of the North Central Geopolitical Zone Seminar held on Friday in Minna, the Niger State capital.
Ibrahim Olaniyan stressed that the PCRC is concerned about the welfare and well-being of the Nigerian police, while he applauded the efforts of the IGP and the AIG Zone 7 for their support of the PCRC and for ensuring peace and tranquillity in the north-central area.
He called for the registration of more members, especially to include youths and women, as their services were needed for the success of its objectives of ensuring community policing in the country.
The national chairman commended the North Central Vice Chairman, Alhaji Usman Tanko Dada Paiko, for his effective leadership style as a good ambassador of the zone.
In their separate remarks, the AIG Zone 7, Ogundele Joshua Ayodeji, and Niger State Command CP, Shawulu Ebenezer Danmamman, assured the police of continued collaboration with the PCRC in the country and lauded them for their voluntary service to humanity in enhancing a secured society.
The guest speaker, Mr Emmanuel Musa of IBB University, Lapai, challenged the police force to engage in intelligent gathering, embrace PCRC, sustain sensitization for security and peace, advocate for the establishment of PCRC units to attend to their urgent complaints and increase the welfare package for the force.
In his welcome address, the North Central Vice Chairman, Alhaji Usman Tanko Dada Paiko, appreciated the partnership enjoyed with the Nigerian police over the years, urging it to be improved upon to have a very secure environment.
The State Chapter of the Police Community Relations Committee( PCRC) presented plaques as awards to the deserving individuals for their contributions and sacrifices to the police force in Niger State and Nigeria at large.
