Cabinet members of the embattled monarch of the Yoruba community in Sokoto State, the Sarikin Yorubawa of Sokoto, Alhaji Abdulfatai Olayiwola Coker, have passed a vote of confidence in his leadership.
Recall that the Yoruba community council in the state, in a press statement signed by the President General and the Secretary on Monday, suspended the monarch from office and asked him to stop parading himself as the Oba of Yoruba in the state
Addressing newsmen on the development, the cabinet members of the council, namely Alhaji Alimi Adeola, Alhaji Surajudeen Shabi and Alhaji Saka Sadiq, said the allegations levelled against the monarch are just trivial issues.
” We noted with full sense of responsibility the purported suspension of our monarch, which is full of ambiguity and without specific crime or activities that highlight any criminal act committed by the Oba Yoruba and the council.
“We, the entire members of the council, which includes the Baales, wish to use this medium to adequately inform you of our stand.” On April 21, 2024, at the general meeting of the Oba Yoruba in council, a vote of confidence was passed on Oba Abdulfatai Olayiwola Coker accordingly.
“We remain resolute and unshaken in this resolution and believe God to remain our guide and guard, while we maintain our best wish to the entire Yoruba residence in Sokoto and others in the North generally.
“We remain resolute that other development will unfold soonest. It is common knowledge that nobody can be a judge in his own case.”
The cabinet members, however, in their submission called on Yoruba sons and daughters in the state to remain calm, saying that the monarch is guided by the constitution upon which he was sworn in.
