Former Napoli striker Cristian Bucchi has showered praise on Victor Osimhen, hailing him as one of the most prolific strikers globally.
The 25-year-old Nigerian striker made headlines in 2020 when he joined Serie A side Napoli from French Ligue 1 club Lille in a €75million deal, riding on the back of a stellar campaign at Lille.
His impact was immediate as he notched 26 goals in 32 appearances, playing a pivotal role in Napoli’s Serie A triumph last season, ending a three-decade-long wait for the Scudetto.
Despite grappling with injuries this season, Osimhen has managed to shine, contributing 12 goals and three assists in 19 league outings for the reigning Serie A champions.
Former Napoli star Bucchi is among those impressed by Osimhen’s prowess, recognizing his stellar goal-scoring instincts.
“In my opinion, Osimhen is one of the world’s top strikers, boasting extraordinary physical attributes: speed, aerial prowess, and sheer power,” Bucchi said, according to Napoli Magazine.
“Over time, he has matured significantly, consistently finding the back of the net and proving pivotal with his goal-scoring prowess. Additionally, his attitude is commendable. I am someone who observes closely, especially the key players.
“Whenever there’s a pass to Osimhen, he acknowledges it by turning and clapping hands with his teammate an admirable display of sportsmanship.
“Osimhen is a true champion, and if he continues to exhibit humility and prioritize team play, he will inspire his teammates. While I can’t predict if he’ll stay in Naples, he undoubtedly ranks among the top five strikers globally.”
Osimhen’s standout performances for Napoli have sparked speculation about his future at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with clubs like Arsenal, PSG, and Chelsea reportedly interested in his signature in the upcoming summer transfer window.
