The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria, Lagos State Area Unit, has appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and Lagos State Government and Muslims across the country to extend charitable acts beyond the Ramadan.
The Muslim Students’ body made this call in an Eid message signed by the Amir (President) of MSSNLagos, Mallam Kamoldeen Abiona, on Wednesday.
Abiona expressed gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for implementing innovative measures to alleviate the hardships faced by the people amidst challenging economic conditions.
“Your efforts have brought relief to the residents of Lagos State, especially during the recent Ramadan period. May Allah continue to guide and support you and your administration in your endeavors.
He urged the Nigerian leaders and government officials to show mercy and compassion towards the citizens.
“Let us emulate the example of our Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in caring for the needs of all members of society.
“The wealthy should extend their charitable acts beyond Ramadan, making it a consistent practice to uplift the less privileged,” he states.
Meanwhile, Abiona commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for enacting student loan legislation with flexible terms.
He said, “Your commitment to the educational welfare of our youth is commendable, and we pray for the success of your administration.”
“On this joyous occasion of Eid ul-Fitr, I extend warm wishes to all our members, fellow Muslims in Lagos State, and across the nation. We thank Allah for granting us the strength and opportunity to complete the blessed month of Ramadan. Let us continue to be grateful for this divine favour; and continue all deeds we engaged in Ramadan even when Ramadan has gone. Be a servant of Allah and not of Ramadan.”
He further stated, “As we bid farewell to Ramadan, let us carry forward the lessons of self-discipline, compassion, and kindness into our daily lives. May the spirit of generosity and goodwill that marked the holy month remain with us throughout the year.”
Abiona, however, called on the government and Muslims to intensify support for the people of Palestine amid the ongoing Israeli-Hamas war.
He said, “Let us remember the Palestinians, especially those in Gaza, who are facing threats from the Israelis and their allies. While we fasted and engaged in good deeds in Ramadan in peace, they endured fear and hardship. As we celebrate today, let us keep them in our prayers.
“I call upon Muslims worldwide to boycott Israeli and its allies’ products until a permanent ceasefire is achieved. Let our actions speak for justice and righteousness.”
