The Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) in Edo State has strongly condemned the recent impeachment of former Deputy Governor Comrade Philip Shaibu by the State House of Assembly.
Dr. Samson Isibor, the Chairman of the Edo State chapter of CRPP, expressed deep disappointment over Shaibu’s impeachment, stating that it was not in line with the expectations of the people of Edo.
Isibor specifically criticized Chief Judge Justice Daniel Okungbowa for overseeing the panel that investigated the allegations of gross misconduct against Shaibu, suggesting that the process was rushed and biased against the former deputy governor.
He emphasized, “This is not what the people of Edo State wanted. The impeachment of the deputy governor is illegal and should not be allowed to stand.”
Isibor pointed out the swift nature of the impeachment process, which lasted only three days, as evidence of preconceived bias. He described the proceedings as a charade and questioned the integrity of the entire process.

Responding to questions about Shaibu’s failure to appear before the panel, Isibor stated, “If he had appeared before the panel, it would have implied his acceptance of their actions. Furthermore, the court had instructed all parties involved to present their case regarding Shaibu’s attempt to halt his impeachment.”
The Edo CRPP argued that Shaibu’s impeachment was uncalled for as it was a waste riddled with political vendata “The CRPP condemned in strong terms the purported impeachment of the Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu, it’s uncalled for; it smacked political vendetta. It was a predetermined game from Obaseki,to see that Shaibu was removed at all cost by all means”, Dr Isibor. Added.
According to the Edo CRPP, Shaibu did not commit any impeachable offence, “We blamed the Chief Judge of Edo State for allowing himself to be used by Obaseki to disobey a high court summons, including the outgoing Governor Obaseki, and the Edo State House of Assembly who harassed and chased away a court bailiff.
“We commend Comrade Shaibu for not appearing at the kangaroo panel. If he had appeared at the panel, Shaibu would have given credence to the illegally constituted panel against the court order.”
The body urged Shaibu to forge ahead with the court case; he will definitely reclaim is mandate given to him by Edo people, which was illegally truncated by Obaseki” CRPP afformed
“The CRPP is strongly behind him. We assure him of our unchangeable support all the way”, the body reassured.
