The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, has expressed confidence that terrorism and insurgency in the North West region will be overcome with the unwavering support and cooperation of the people.
Lt Gen Lagbaja commended the resilience and sacrifice of the troops of 1 Brigade Nigerian Army in the ongoing fight against terrorism and insurgency in North West Nigeria.
In a statement released on Sunday in Gusau by the Director of Army Public Relations, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the COAS praised the troops’ dedication and assured them of continued support in their efforts to address security challenges in Zamfara State.
During his operational visit to the 1 Brigade Area of Responsibility in Gusau, Zamfara State on Saturday, April 6, 2024, Lt Gen Lagbaja received a briefing from the Commander of 1 Brigade, Brig Gen Sani Ahmed, on the activities and successes of the troops in the ongoing Operation Desert Sanity II in Zamfara and neighbouring states.
The COAS pledged additional support for the Brigade, including combat enablers and operational requirements, to enhance their effectiveness in safeguarding their Area of Responsibility.
The visit underscores the commitment of the Nigerian Army to combatting insurgency and ensuring the security and safety of the people in the North West region. With continued cooperation and support, Lt Gen Lagbaja expressed optimism in overcoming the security challenges facing the region.
The COAS also seized the opportunity to pay a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gusau, HRH Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Bello Sarkin Katsinan Gusau, where he expressed appreciation to the royal father and the good people of Gusau for their support to the troops and the Nigerian Army in general.
He assured the Emir that with continued support and cooperation of the people, terrorism and insurgency will be surmounted.
