Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, on Thursday, emphasised his administration’s agenda for sustainable development of the water sector of the state.
The Governor was speaking when he received Mrs Awa Diagne, the Task Team Lead of the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH), a World Bank-funded project, in his office for a debriefing session following her tour of project sites in Gombe State.
During the audience, the TTL commended the exemplary implementation of the SURWASH project by Gombe State, attributing its success to the political will exhibited by the governor.
Awa Diagne also lauded Gombe for being the first state to sign the Policy, Institutional, and Regulation Plan (PIRP), describing the development as a significant milestone.
Prior to her meeting with the Governor, the SURWASH TTL visited key government agencies, including the Ministry of Water, Environment, and Forest Resources, the Budget Office, and the Office of the SA on Development Partners Coordination.
The team also conducted field visits to project sites in Gombe and Kwami Local Government Areas, with a commitment to sustaining the partnership between the state and the SURWASH initiative in the mission to enhance water and sanitation infrastructure.
The governor, during the meeting, expressed Gombe’s readiness for expanded collaboration with the World Bank and other international organisations to further advance the state’s progress and prosperity.
Acknowledging the water and sanitation challenges faced by the state, the governor emphasised the commitment of his administration to addressing those issues through collaboration with relevant organisations.
He said through the Gombe State 10-year development plan, tagged DEVAGOM, which is a comprehensive strategy rooted in pre-office needs assessments, his government is poised to fulfil the aspirations of the people.
