The Chief Judge of Rivers State, Justice Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, has announced plans to conduct a goal delivery exercise at the Port Harcourt Maximum Correctional Centre on Friday, March 22, 2024.
According to a statement released by the Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, David Ihua-Maduenyi, the initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at alleviating congestion within correctional facilities across the state.
The statement underscored that the exercise aligns with the provisions outlined in Section 1 of the Criminal Justice Law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and Section 34 of the Rivers State Administration of Criminal Justice Law of 2015.
It further outlined the Chief Judge’s proactive measures, citing the recent deployment of magistrates to correctional facilities in Port Harcourt, Ahoada, and Degema, leading to the release of 90 inmates.
