According to transfer insider Ben Jacobs, Chelsea FC are contemplating the appointment of former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor.
Reports suggest that discussions about the possibility of Flick being lured to Stamford Bridge have already taken place internally.
With Pochettino having endured a tough start following his arrival last summer, Chelsea remain inconsistent in results and currently sit in 11th position in the Premier League table.
Although there is no immediate plan to replace Pochettino, the Blues are said to be forging relationships and keeping track of people in the market, so that they have an idea of the right person for the job should they need to make such a managerial change in the future.
Flick, who helped Bayern Munich win the Champions League in the 2019–2020 season, is reportedly under the club’s consideration for future managerial succession planning.
Jacobs emphasised that the discussions about potential replacements do not suggest that Chelsea have lost faith in Pochettino, but rather that the club is simply being smart about keeping options open for the future.
“When we hear a lot of these names linked with Chelsea, it doesn’t mean they are going behind Pochettino’s back and offering somebody a job. It means that Chelsea are forging relationships, they are tracking people, and they are aware of who is out there in the market,” Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT.
“That is just smart. Within that context, Hansi Flick is one name that could come under consideration, and has been spoken about internally as part of normal succession planning.”
