Cabinet ministers have discussed whether the Tories might be forced to replace Rishi Sunak before the next general election, according to a report.
Bloomberg reported private discussions had been held by ministers in recent days about the Prime Minister’s future, citing “people familiar with the matter”.
The ministers involved are said to still be supportive of Mr Sunak and do not want a leadership change now, with no clear rival having appeared who could challenge him.
The discussions are said to have been prompted by concerns about Mr Sunak’s political judgement and against the wider backdrop of the Tories performing poorly in the polls.
Two senior ministers told Bloomberg that Mr Sunak would likely be removed if someone emerged who could replace him without holding a full Tory leadership battle.
