Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu, surviving daughter of Chief Obafemi Awolowo has described his legacy as deep and continuous, as he is still being celebrated many years after his death.
Awolowo-Dosunmu revealed this on Saturday during a courtesy call by well-wishers of the sage in Ikenne, Ogun state.
According to her, the sage lived a life of impact and ensured he touched the lives of everyone.
“The name Awolowo will also inspire them to be good and upright citizens. Free education, free health, all the people-centred programmes, infrastructures and generally good governance that built trust. There was synergy between him and the people, they trusted him and he trusted them too. It was a friendship of sorts, a profound kind of relationship that he built with the people such that children now are hearing his stories.
“So he transformed lives, not only those lives. His legacy is so deep and wide. It is felt everywhere because he transformed lives. He is a phenomenon.”

In addition, she said, “The name Obafemi Awolowo, we are hoping would also inspire these youngsters to do good and become upright citizens.”
She stated that the competition was being sponsored as part of the initiative to promote Awolowo’s legacy, ‘which is to emphasise that “every child deserves a chance in life.
“Even after his death, many architects came around to offer their services for free to design the Mausoleum where Chief Awo was buried. This is a result of his impact while alive. Papa’s legacy has been a wonder, so much so that even years after his death, he is still being celebrated.“
