The crescent, which signals the beginning of the Holy month of Ramadan, has been sighted in Saudi Arabia.
The statement from the Haramain Sharafain in Saudi Arabia reads, “The moon for Ramadan 1445/2024 has been seen! So, Ramadan 1445/2024 will start tomorrow, on March 11, 2024. Taraweeh Prayers will start in the Two Holy Mosques after Isha Prayers.”
The moon was seen on Sunday evening, showing that Sha’aban, the eighth month of the Hijri Calendar, is ending, and the Holy month of Ramadan will begin on Monday, March 11.
Ramadan follows the Islamic lunar calendar, with months lasting either 29 or 30 days, and the start and end are determined by when the moon is sighted.
In Nigeria, Muslims are waiting for confirmation from the Sultan of Sokoto before they begin fasting, as they haven’t seen the moon yet.
