The League of African Ambassadors has lauded the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) for lifting the sanctions against Mali, Burkina Faso, and Nigeria.
According to them, ECOWAS action reflects a shared dedication to fostering peace, stability, and prosperity across the region and a commitment to safeguarding the welfare of African citizens.
The group, through its president, Ambassador Nwannebuike Ominyi, disclosed this while speaking with journalists on Tuesday.
According to him, the lifting of the sanction will also underscore the spirit of resilience and unity.
Ominyi then thanked President Bola Tinubu, Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority, and the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS for their decisive leadership in this matter.
Ominyi, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Mr Iduma Chris Mayor, emphasised the imperative of remaining united within the ECOWAS family.
Ominyi, however, called on the governments of Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger to reciprocate the goodwill by reaffirming their commitment to ECOWAS’s principles and values. Adding that withdrawal from the community is not a solution; rather, embracing dialogue and cooperation offers constructive avenues for addressing common challenges.
The League of African Ambassadors, however, reaffirmed its steadfast support for ECOWAS in its mission to advance peace, stability, and development in West Africa, even as they urged all member states to collaborate in solidarity and mutual respect to overcome any obstacles that may arise.
