Two of the most popular social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook, experienced a widespread outage on Tuesday evening.
Both platforms, owned by the American company Facebook Inc., rely on shared infrastructure.
The disruption occurred shortly before 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time, rendering users unable to view posts on refresh.
In response to the outage, numerous users turned to X (formerly Twitter), another social networking platform, to express their frustrations and share their experiences.
@franchewx tweeted
Lol. I tried logging into my FB, but it kept logging me out. I tried the mobile version, same thing. Then I ran to Twitter and saw Facebook and Instagram trending. Before I even opened it, I quickly knew I’m safe.”
@Omojomi01 shared:
“Exactly, Twitter was the first app I checked when I got frustrated, my mood changed within 2 seconds, I wan mad. But I confirmed it’s a general issue since it’s trending.”
@COffiaukwu expressed relief:
“I thought my account was hacked oo. Thank God.”
@RhymaholicI expressed relief:
“I am now relieved. I had panicked. I thought all my Facebook accounts were hacked, even the ghost accounts that manage my big pages.”
@FelixOjo14 voiced frustration:
“This downtime isn’t funny at all.”
