On Monday, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelebu, dropped this hint at Aba as the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commissions the Aba Integrated Power Project by the Geometric Powers.
President Bola Tinubu had also commissioned three roads rehabilitated by the state governor, Alex Otti, all in Aba: Omoba Road, Jubilee Road, and Queens Street, Aba.
In his speech at the commissioning of the power plant, the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelebu, disclosed, “An end is coming to estimated billing. There will not be estimated bills any longer”, as consumers will now know what he is paying for.
Speaking on the power plant, he said, “The Integrated Aba Power Project is a sign that the long-standing power problem in Nigeria will be resolved,” adding, “The solution begins today,” and called on the Aba people to secure the power project.
Speaking while commissioning the geometric power plant, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, noted that “this project bears testimony to the power of dreams,” describing the power plant as a “changing project,” and adding that “today in Abia, we saw testimony of good leadership.”.
Earlier, while commissioning the three roads, President Bola Tinubu applauded Gov. Alex Otti, stating that Abia State is working, disclosing that the presidency is proud of the developmental strides of Governor Otti in the state, and asserting also that Governor Otti has brought his experience to bear in the administration of Abia State.
“Within the last nine months, the people of Abia State have witnessed a change in their fortunes. Abia is working, and we are quite proud of the accomplishments of Dr Alex Otti, who has brought to bear his wealth of experience, intellect, and exposure to the development of Abia State,” he said, emphasising that quality leadership is very crucial to the development of society. He thanked Gov. Otti for his humility and respect, as well as the development he is bringing to Abia.”.
Speaking earlier, Otti said the roads being commissioned are strategic roads and stressed that the roads are built to last.
“This road is a road that is built to last. When we do this, we want to give the power back to the people. We want to give you access.
“We want you to go back to what you do and what you know how to do without any obstruction, and that is why we have promised that every part of Aba must be touched.”.
Otti thanked the President for the support he has been giving to his administration since he assumed office and assured the people of the state that his administration is just starting, adding that he would ensure he fulfilled his promises to them.
Speaking at the Geometric Power Plant commissioning, Gov. Otti noted that the project was a result of “the power to dream,” while the commissioning was to “celebrate realisation.”.
With the power project in Aba, he said the commissioning was a clear sign that Aba is now open to national and international businesses and warned Geometric about customer extortion, customer protection regulations, billing, and disconnections and not to take undue advantage of the monopoly they have.
In his address, the proprietor of Geometric Power and former Minister of the country, Barth Nnaji, described the project as “a child of necessity” that has taken him 20 years to realise.
