The Zamfara state House of Assembly Speaker, Hon Bilyaminu Moriki has announced the suspension of eight members for alleged abuse of legislative procedures, conspiracy and mischief which amounts to the content of legislature in the state.
The suspension of members followed a sitting held on Monday morning at the assembly chamber in Gusau, the state capital where the majority leader of the house, Bello Muhammad Mazawaje moved the motion for the suspension.
On the suspension motion moved by the majority leader, Mazawaje said the suspended members were accused of organising illegal house sitting, breaking the offices of clerk of the house and sergeant, and destroying properties.
According to him, “those members were also alleged to have closed the Assembly gate as part of their plan to prevent other members from gaining entrance into the assembly complex.
“The suspended members organised illegal sitting without a deputy speaker in the absence of the speaker, closing the gate of the main entrance to the assembly complex and denying other members from the premises.”
In their separate contributions while seconding the suspension motion, the deputy speaker, Hon Lirwanu Marafa Anka and Hon Hamisu Faru both described the recent happening at the State House of Assembly as illegal against the assembly, said the matter should not be taken lightly, supported any legal action against the airing members.
In his remarks, the speaker, Moriki ruled that the members were suspended for the alleged abuse of legislative procedures, conspiracy, mischief and contempt of of legislative among others.
He directed the state security service to further investigate the suspended members and translate to the state ministry of justice for necessary measures.
Those suspended are Hon.Sani Abdullahi, Hon.Bashir Abubakar, Hon.Faruk Dosara, Hon.Ibrahim T. Tukur, Hon. Shamsuddeen Hassan, Hon.Nasiru Maru, Hon. Aminu Keta and Hon.Bashar Aliyu.
In his submission to the house, the minority whip, Hon Nura Dahiru Birnin Magaji urged the house before taking any decision to direct the investigation through the house committee on ethics and privilege with a view to finding the solution.
It could be recalled that some members under the leadership of what they described as speaker pro-tempo had last Thursday evening suspended the speaker of the House Bilyaminu Moriki over his long absence from office.
