Katsina State Governor Dikko Umaru Radda has visited Yannasarawa village in Faskari Local Government Area to offer his condolences following a brutal attack by armed bandits that left eight people dead and 45 kidnapped in the community.
The attack, which occurred last week, also resulted in the destruction of ten houses and twelve shops by the attackers.
Eight vehicles were also burnt down during the attack.
Governor Radda, through his representative, Abdullahi Garba Faskari, Secretary to the State Government, expressed his deepest sympathies to the families who lost loved ones and reaffirmed his commitment to combating banditry and other criminal activities in the state.
He pledged to continue the fight against “undesirable elements” until the state is free from such violence.
A statement by Abdullahi Yar’adua, Director of Press, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, disclosed that during the visit, officials met residents and a vigilante group member. The member, who requested anonymity, described the villagers’ valiant efforts to defend their homes despite being outnumbered and outgunned by the bandits.
He claimed the villagers killed seven attackers before retreating.
They also disclosed that the fate of the kidnapped individuals remains unknown, with no contact yet established between the victims and their abductors. A list of victims and damaged properties was handed to the Secretary to the Government, who promised to relay the information to Governor Radda.
Residents appreciated the Governor’s commitment to fighting terrorism but called for more security personnel to be deployed to their village and requested the reconstruction of the road leading to the community from Daudawa.
