The Coach of Gombe United Football Club, Mohammed Babaganaru, says his team is not psychologically sound owing to its financial challenges.
Babaganaru stated this in a post-match conference held at Pantami township stadium on Sunday shortly after Gombe United Football Club defeated visiting Lagos Sporting Football Club 2-0.
Our correspondent reports that the team is currently battling against relegation over its downturns in previous matches.
The team’s fortune, however, was lifted with two goals scored by Abdulateef and Taiye in the 45th and 74th minutes respectively.
According to the coach, the psychology of the players was affected by insufficient resources.
Babaganaru said, “We have a lot of challenges firstly, when we started we began well. You know we have financial challenges; psychologically the boys are not sound. So the government needs to come in and help this club financially, the problem is not quality players finance is the major problem. I’m appealing to His Excellency to come to the aide of this club.”
On the extent financial boost will go Babaganaru said, “We have the quality especially when you look at the recruitment we did the boys have played well and shown good character. I will keep on saying that the club has financial problems.”
On the amount that is required for the ultimatum performance of the team he said, “I’m only the coach, the question should be extended to the General Manager. But for me, I know we have that challenge.”
On the chances of the club, Babaganaru noted that it would have dire consequences, “yes it will affect you, there is no way you can manage your home without money. Your wife will hate you,” he added.
Also speaking, the Coach of Sporting Lagos Football Club, Paul Offor, promised to look ahead to future matches, instead of dwelling on Gombe’s loss.
Offor said, “We lost today a very difficult match but the most important one we need to focus on this one is gone there is nothing we can do about this right now. Right now we have to shift our attention to our next game.
On the implication of the result on his team, he added, “We will not allow it to affect us in getting maximum performance.”
