100 wheelchairs have been donated to 100 people with disabilities in Gamawa LGA of Bauchi State to assist them in mobility around.
The wheelchairs were donated by a member of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) serving in Gamawa Local Government Area of Bauchi state, Khadija Lukman.
Speaking during the presentation of the hand-powered tricycles on Friday, the Corps member with badge number BA/23A/3158, said that the gesture was a result of her pledge while in school to help people with disabilities.
She explained that the wheelchairs were not given to the beneficiaries to encourage street begging, rather they were to aid their movement while engaging in productive activities.
Khadija Lukman added that, “These wheelchairs are to aid them in their movements in going to school, places of work or worship and to go and learn a trade so that they won’t be a burden to themselves or to the society.”
“I would like to urge the beneficiaries not to give up on life and aspire for whatever they would like to be,” she said.
