In its readiness for the September 21, 2024 Edo State Governorship Election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has nominated Dr Asue Ighodalo, through its primary held on Thursday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin, as its candidate for the election.
Announcing the results of the primary, the Zamfara State Governor and Chief Returning Officer for the exercise, Dauda Lawal, said that 594 delegates were elected to participate in the exercise, out of which 585 actually participated in the election.
He declared that Ighodalo emerged as the winner of the exercise with a total of 577 votes to defeat his closest rival, Philip Shaibu, who he said scored one vote.
He said: “Pursuant to the Party (PDP) constitution and as the Chief Returning Officer for the PDP Government Primary in Edo State, I hereby declare Asue Ighodalo as the winner of the primary with a total vote of 577.
“I hereby return him as the candidate of the party for the September 21, 2024, governorship election in Edo State”,
According to Governor Lawal, other aspirants, which include Arthur Esele, Anselm Ojezua, Omosede Igbinedion, Osaro Onaiwu, Martins Uhomoibhi, Hadizat Umoru, and Felix Akhabue, scored zero votes, Hon. Omoregie Ogbeide-Ihama and Hom. Omosede Igbinedion withdrew from the race
In his acceptance speech, Ighodalo thanked the party members for the confidence reposed in him, promising to be a useful tool to them towards moving Edo State forward developmentally
