The Conference of Former Speakers of State Houses of Assembly on Saturday, called on the administration of President Bola Tinubu to quickly address all of the factors that have triggered the current economic hardship being experienced by Nigerians.
Members made the call at the end of their meeting presided over by a former Governor of Plateau State, Simon Lalong, at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Yola, Adamawa State capital.
The meeting was attended by the host Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, and his colleagues from Ebonyi State, Francis Nwifuru; Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and several others.
The meeting which reviewed the state of the nation, noted the hardship being faced by Nigerians as a result of the economic and security challenges bedeviling the country.
The conference therefore urged the Federal Government to embark on initiatives geared towards tackling the problems.
The communique issued at the end of the executive session of the group and signed by Lalong noted that the group “decried the falling value of the naira and requested the monetary and fiscal authorities to find appropriate solutions to the challenges”
On the security concerns, the communique urged the President to make a concerted effort to address the challenge, saying, “It is paramount to bolster collaborative efforts among security agencies, enhance intelligence gathering mechanisms, and engage in community-oriented policing strategies.”
