Following the skyrocketing price of cement and alleged diversion of cement to neighboring countries from Adamawa State may soon force contractors to abandon work on site.
The project manager of Triact Nigeria Limited, Engr. Ganame Ghassan, stated this against the backdrop of increasing cost of bagged cement in the country and particularly in Adamawa state where the product is not available.
Engr. Ghassan, whose company is the major contractor in Adamawa, said if the government fails to intervene in the situation, the hope of completing construction works in record time will not be achieved and this will also lead to loss of jobs.
He called on the state to step in so as to avoid loss of jobs and project abandonment.
He however thanked the Adamawa state government for giving the company the opportunity to serve but stressed that there will be a limit to bear loss in the execution of projects.
Meanwhile, some residents who spoke with our correspondence expressed worries over the skyrocketing price of cement on a daily basis.
As at the time of filing this report, a bag of cement is sold for between N9,500 to N10,500 in Adamawa depending on the brand.
It could be recalled that the Adamawa state government placed a ban on transporting building materials to neighboring countries in a bid to avoid scarcity of building materials.
