Ibrahim Aliyu, the Councilor representing Madaki ward in the Doma Legislative Arm, has raised concerns regarding the administration of the Doma Local Government Council in Nasarawa State.
Aliyu accused the Council Chairman, Ahmed Sarki Usman, of administering the Council without an approved budget by the Legislative Arm since 2023, contrary to Nasarawa State Local Government Law 2018 as amended.
During an emergency sitting of the House in Doma on Tuesday, February 13, Aliyu moved a motion for the ‘restoration of public confidence and the preservation of dignity and indispensability of the institution of the Legislature.’
Aliyu accused the Chairman of denying the Legislature access to the financial mandates of the Council and revealed that millions of naira had been deducted from the Council’s treasury without the knowledge of the Legislative Arm.
Aliyu appealed to the House to constitute an Adhoc Committee to investigate the finances of the Council and the number of projects initiated by the administration, as well as their levels of implementation and payments made so far.
The motion was unanimously adopted by the House, which ordered the Director of Finance and Supplies of the Council to furnish them with the financial statement of the Local Government from October 2021 till date, including subventions, ecological funds, project funds, and Internally-Generated Revenue received within the stipulated date.
Efforts to reach the Council Chairman for comment were unsuccessful at the time of reporting, however, an aide speaking anonymously, defended the Chairman, claiming that he has always operated within the confines of the law and is rated as the best in the history of the local government.
