A confrontation ensued between residents and staff members of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) on Thursday afternoon in a neighborhood in Lafia, the capital of Nasarawa State.
The AEDC personnel were reportedly there to disconnect customers from the public power supply due to unpaid debts.
Residents, who had long been voicing their concerns over what they described as “outrageous billing without commensurate electricity supply,” thwarted the disconnection attempt.
A yet-to-be-identified AEDC staff member, who persisted in carrying out the disconnection, faced resistance and was severely beaten by disgruntled customers.
The incident occurred near the residence of millionaire businessman and trader, Alhaji Turakin Gamj.
